CUSTOMER IN FOCUS - MATT CARLIN

Once a month we will be featuring one of our customers in an email about their health and fitness journey and life in general. This month we are featuring Matt Carlin (photo in the CLASSIC BLACK TEE (SOLD OUT) AND PERFORMANCE COMPRESSION SHORTS).

From believing he was not a real runner to running half marathons and many various events, Matt has truly become a runner and has a massive goals ones day of running the Chicago Marathon. Enjoy Matt's journey below:

Where are you from?

I grew up in a small coastal town called Port MacDonnell. Which about 30km south of Mount Gambier in South Australia. In 1998 I moved to the big smoke Melbourne for better career opportunities.

What got you started on your health and fitness journey?

I’ve always been involved in sports and from an early age.

My marriage ended soon after turning 40 and I think this was a bit of a wake up call for me to get healthy and fit again. I slowly started going out for a few jogs here and there. But I can’t say I was enjoying it that much until I met a few people on social medial that were runners and suggested I give Parkrun a go. I think my response was “I’m not a real runner”. Then they explained to me what Parkrun was all about. A community of all types of people, age groups and abilities getting together every Saturday morning to run or walk 5km. That’s where my love for running began. I enjoy running for so many reasons. I’ve met so many amazing people that inspire me every day to keep moving forward with a big thumbs up and a smile on my face.

What is your favourite item of Maw Activewear?

That’s like asking me which of my kids do I like the best haha. I pretty much have every MAW Active wear that’s available. I love the designs, colours and they are super comfy.

What adversity have you had to overcome to get to where you are?

Losing my Dad when I was in my early thirties. I always try to make him proud even now that he’s gone. In the end, its not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.

What has been your greatest achievement to date?

My two wonderful kids. Nothing comes close to how proud I am to be their Dad.

What is your favourite fitness event you have undertaken?

2 Bays Trail running event closely followed by Sydney’s iconic City2Surf.

What is your favourtie fitness activity? (i.e. Running, Gym, Swimming, Hiking)

Running. I just love the social aspect and you can do it anywhere and anytime. I always pack my runners and MAW gear when I’m travelling.

Do you have any daily routines that you follow that keeps you on track?

Routine is one of my weaknesses and strengths. Depends on how you view life. I can have a structured plan but then also be spontaneous.

What are your health and fitness goals for 2021?

I still have a goal to run my first marathon. This was meant to happen last year in Chicago as I gained entry via the ballot system. COVID put a hold to that. I also plan to get back into the gym to work on my strength to help achieve that marathon goal.

What do you like best about the Maw Brothers Group?

It’s such a friendly and supportive group of guys. I can’t wait to meet more of the MAW Brothers out there.

If you could (After COVID) what event would you like to undertake in the world?

Chicago Marathon.

Thanks Matt for an insightful look into your life and fitness journey. Fitness takes us to places we never imagined and we all can't wait to see you cross that finish line in Chicago. Thanks brother keep up the amazing work.
