CUSTOMER IN FOCUS - EVAN HEALY

Once a month we will be featuring one of our customers in an email about their health and fitness journey and life in general. This month we are featuring Evan Healy with his Maw Brother Matt Carlin (photo in the PERFORMANCE TEE).

Evan loves his running, the social aspect, the physical aspect and how he is able to chuck on his shoes and switch off. Read Evan's story below:

Where are you from?

Grew up in Frankston North (Victoria, Australia), better known as The Pines.

What is your Why?

Originally why I started my journey into fitness was to lose weight but now its my way to switch off, there isn’t a better form of therapy than chucking on the shoes and going for a run.

What motivates you to keep going?

I love the social aspect of running. You really get to know someone when you go out for 2-4 hrs on a training run every week or 2.

I'm always looking for the next challenge and like being in that small % of people around the world who have completed marathons.

What tips do you have for someone who is just starting their journey?

Start slow, allow your body to recover and don’t be afraid to challenge yourself.

What are you daily habits that allow you to exercise and stay on track?

Meal prep is a ritual every Sunday, which keeps me on track.

Iv also written training plans for myself and set monthly goals (pushup, plank challenges etc).

What do you think of the Maw Active gear?

I find the maw gear really comfortable, and that first time your grab it out of the packaging you can tell its make with quality material.

Who do you look up too in your health and fitness journey?

My running mentor would be Chris Johnstone.

He is always pushing himself for the next challenge and he is always there to listen to me vent.

What adversity have you had to overcome to get to where you are?

At my heaviest I was about 120kg, and my lowest pre COVID-19 I got down to 80kg, which works out to be about 1/3 of my body weight. As well as being a smoker made it really hard for me starting out.

What has been your greatest achievement to date?

Proudest running moment would be setting a goal to do a sub 20min 5km in 2020 and I was able to do it at the start of November.

What is your favourite fitness event you have undertaken?

My favourite event to attend is Tough Mudder, I love the emphasis on team work and really enjoy the day as a whole.

What are your goals for 2021?

Goals for 2021 was my 2nd 56km ultra, which I had to pull out of due to injuries. Plan to train up and do Surfcoast 100 in September.

What do you like best about the Maw Brothers Group?

The unconditional support for other guys who have also been through similar challenges and come out the other side.

If you could (After COVID) what event would you like to undertake in the world?

After COVID I would like to do at least one marathon per continent of the world.

Thank you so much Evan for sharing your fitness journey. It can be hard to get into fitness but once you are there it so rewarding especially after all the training you do. Unfortunately due to injury Evan couldn't complete the two bays trail run but we know mate that you will put in a huge amount of work to achieve your goal or running an ultra at Surfcoast 100.

We look forward to bringing you next months Customer in Focus.
