CUSTOMER IN FOCUS - BILL KELLY
Once a month we will be featuring one of our customers in an email about their health and fitness journey and life in general. This month we are featuring Bill Kelly (photo in the TRAINER TEE & ALLROUNDER SHORTS).
Bill set himself some massive goals which included getting to 90kg and running 1000km in 2019, which he achieved, please read below his inspirational story:
Where are you from?
Adelaide, South Australia.
What motivates you to keep going?
Results! I am the type of person that likes to plan and then achieve. I set a goal and then work towards it. A goal is always needed to keep you wanting more.
What tips do you have for someone who is just starting their journey?
Don’t look for a quick fix. I have made that mistake so many times over the years. Everything needs to be sustainable and easy to get back on if you fall off. Think of what the big picture is and then set it out in steps and get after it.
What are your health and fitness goals for 2020?
At the time of writing it is week 2 of Jan 2020. My goals are quite generic and overarching right now but they are always flexible enough to adapt. I want to maintain healthy eating and reduce body weight. I want to run at least the same amount of kms as 2019 but also want to increase my gym time to build strength. As the year goes on their will be certain events that catch my eye and my focus will shift to them.
What do you think if the Maw Active gear?
Absolutely love it. I have the entire range.
Who has been your biggest influence on your health and fitness journey and why?
Quite a few people. I seek influence from all around the world. Closer to home though I have a good friend Jason Smith who over the last few years has helped keep me focused and driven. Jason also introduced me to the MAW group which has become an amazingly supportive and inspiring group of people.
What adversity have you had to overcome to get to where you are?
Lack of knowledge! I was always flying blind when it came to food and nutrition. I have still only just scratched the surface, but I feel like I am starting to know what works for me and why.
What has been your greatest achievement to date?
In recent times they all came in 2019.
I started running. Building in distance as the year progressed.
Starting Parkrun.
Sub 22:30 5km
Sub 50:00 10km
Sub 60:00 12km
Sub 2:00:00 21.1km
Running a total of 1000km in one year.
Weight loss from 111kg to 90kg in 2019.
Maintaining running while overseas for work was also a big achievement for me.
What is your favourite fitness event you have undertaken?
I love Parkruns. I get a lot of enjoyment from them. A bigger event for me last year was the Adelaide City To Bay run in the city. I set a goal of sub 60 min for the 12km event. I trained for it and I got it. That meant a lot to me.
Just incredible, shows the power and determination Bill had to change his life. He is such an inspiration to so many of the Maw Brothers,
We can't wait to bring you next Month's customer in focus.
